Spring is one of our favorite times of year here at ADJ. After the calm of winter, the world begins to bloom back to life, bringing a symphony of new colors, textures, and inspiration. Here are some of the top trends we’re watching this spring:
Color is the new happy.
Color has a way of setting the mood, and who couldn’t use a mood-booster? We’re seeing clients pull from every color in the rainbow to build their own unique flavor of happy in their homes – from bold, high-saturation pinks, jades, and yellows to warm, nature-inspired palettes. Thoughtfully layering color in a design – the same way one might layer an outfit – adds depth, interest, and impact. Once the backdrop is set, we throw in the “jewelry”: like metallic elements, chandeliers, lamps, and other accessories.
New Neutrals.
Neutrals are always on trend, but this renewed appreciation for the power of color is inspiring people to think far beyond gray and beige. Different shades of white can be a powerful backdrop against which to layer bright pops of color, as can darker neutrals like black, navy, chambray, and denim.
Art Explosion.
One of the biggest (and most welcome, if you ask us!) changes we’ve seen over the last year is more artwork in homes (we’ve never commissioned more art for clients than we did last year!). It’s a simple luxury that can have a deeply personal effect, and people are placing more and more value on artwork that inspires them. Locally-commissioned artwork gives our clients the chance to incorporate truly custom pieces into their design – and connects their home even more deeply to the community that surrounds it. Art is one of the most impactful elements of any design — whether displaying in high visibility spaces like living rooms and other gathering areas, or enjoying smaller pieces in unexpected areas like closets, powder rooms, and laundry rooms.
Little Luxuries.
Not surprisingly, entertainment is back in a big way as people continue to be focused on ways to make their homes both more multi-functional and relaxing. From TVs to sound systems to smart home features like LED fixtures and powered shades, clients are looking for convenient elements that allow them to set the mood in a space at the push of a button.
Bringing the outdoors in.
What better time to bring the influence of nature indoors than spring? Many people are opting for natural over traditional touches in their designs, like a live edge walnut tabletop. Indoor plants are another popular way to bring the serenity of nature to a space, and the containers are just as much a part of the aesthetic as the plants themselves; like a great piece of art, the right planter can add the perfect finishing touch to a room.
Repurpose and Relax.
With most people still working from home, everyone has their eye on making spaces truly functional and comfortable for the entire family. We’re helping more clients reconsider old spaces and think beyond the “intended” purpose of specific rooms. Many clients, for example, find that their formal dining rooms are actually better used as a hub of household activity – a space for kids to play games or parents to work without taking over kitchen counters. Multifunctional furniture, like living room ottomans that double as seats for the kids to gather around the coffee table for crafts or games, can totally transform the way your family uses a space. Our lives are nothing like they were even one year ago, so it’s time to think about how we can use the space in our homes differently, too.
Spring is a time to refresh and renew; to take inspiration from the beauty of nature and dare to be bold as you get your home – and your family — ready for a new season. If you’re ready to reimagine your space this spring, we’re here to help. Let’s talk!
